I'm going to let you in on a little-known fact: I don’t transition well. I was at a preschool parent-teacher conference the first time I heard that phrase. The teacher wasn’t referring to me… she was referring to a much smaller, far cuter, male version of me… but I internalized her words nonetheless. As she explained how my son had a hard time moving on from the things he loved, I thought to ...
Re-Entry
This photo was taken by one of our staff members, Dylan Shrier. He is 20. He is a Sophomore counselor, the head of our Arts and Crafts program, and an all-around amazing person. He saw this spectacular sunset, and he captured what I have been attempting to capture since my first night at camp. I am embarrassed to admit how many bad sunset photos I have on my iPhone. I cannot for the life of ...
Prospective Campers on the Hillside at Training Camp 2016
This past Sunday we hosted our annual Baurecrest Training Camp, which brought 24 prospective campers to the Hillside. It was just awesome to watch these boys taking it all in. My favorite part was when, after lunch, they all went back to their bunk for rest period and immediately jumped into their beds. That except for the crying, you could hear a pin drop. Most of us here are ...
Opening Days 2016!
Hello from the Hillside! (Did that sound like Adele to anyone else?) What an amazing first day we had here at Camp Bauercrest! The weather was spectacular, the bunks were ship shape, the staff was chomping at the bit, and the campers arrived ready for action. And I can assure you there was no shortage of action! Just before Taps, I visited each of the bunks; I loved watching the kids getting ...
What to Expect in June
Hi Bauercrest families, School might be winding down to a close, but with play-offs, proms, recitals, graduation parties, and more, it can feel like your iCal is on overload. June is a month that tends to be wrought with emotion and transition. It can be hard to navigate through it all, and even harder to imagine that it will ease up anytime soon. But it will. And because we were actually ...
