It is with great sadness that we write to inform you that Camp Bauercrest will not open this summer due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We all live “10 for 2,” and it is so disappointing we will not be together at camp this summer running up and down the Hillside. Like you, we will sorely miss bunk nights, games on the A Diamond and Color War. We had desperately hoped that the end result would be different. However, we all agree that the health and welfare of our campers and staff is of paramount importance. We would never want to do anything that would put them in jeopardy.
Since the start of the pandemic, we have had frequent calls with our Board of Directors and prepared for different scenarios in the hope that we could somehow open. Despite all the planning, the restrictions that would be placed on camp this summer would prevent us from truly being together. It simply would not be feasible to safely social distance on the hoop court or euro field, in the bunks or mess hall, or anywhere else at camp.
We are already counting the days to next summer and look forward to connecting with you in any way we can this summer. We want to see you and hear from you often. In the meantime, please remember all of our amazing traditions, laugh about the funny memories with your best friends, and continue to grow the friendships which are so unique to Bauercrest. We will be back stronger than ever in 2021!
That being said, we want to remind you of the financial options available to you due to camp being closed:
1. Apply the paid portion of 2020 tuition to next summer. In doing so, there would
be no increase in tuition for next season. Even though our camping season is only seven weeks long, we are a year round operation. Rolling over your tuition would help in terms of cash flow to cover the costs we have already incurred in addition to helping us prepare for the 2021 season.
2. Donate your tuition, or a portion of your tuition, for Bauercrest scholarships. We
do not want anyone to miss camp because of financial hardship. These donations will have an even greater impact this year, as The Harold Grinspoon Foundation’s JCamp 180 Initiative has graciously pledged a 1:2 match for every donation we receive and a 1:1 match for every donated tuition. This means that if you donate $1000, The Harold Grinspoon Foundation will donate $500. If you choose to donate all or part of your pre-paid tuition, The Harold Grinspoon Foundation will match 100% of your donation. This is a wonderful opportunity for Bauercrest to come together as a community.
3. Have tuition refunded, as we understand this could be a challenging time for you and your family.
We will reach out to each of you, within the next two weeks to discuss which option works best for your family.
Please stay in touch. As always, we are here for you, so reach out to us anytime. In the meantime, click here to view a video message from us. We miss you already.
