BACKGROUND

Camp Bauercrest is an overnight sports camp for Jewish boys` located on the shores of Lake Attitash in Amesbury, Massachusetts. Since 1931, Bauercrest has helped boys build self-esteem and independence, both on and off the field, under the guidance and leadership of dedicated staff. The Head counselors are responsible for managing and supporting a designated group of counselors and campers. The Head Counselors are members of the Senior Leadership Team and will provide input on campers, staff, and camp activities.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree preferred in relevant area of study.
• Previous camp staff experience, preferably in an administrative or supervisory role
• Ability to provide supervision and guidance to a young developing staff.
  Experience working with and ability to form positive connections with campers and staff between the ages of 7 and 22.
• Strong communication skills with both groups and individuals
• Highly efficient, flexible, reflective and organized
• Team player
• Coaching experience preferred
  
  

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Pre-season:

• Contact staff members who will be under direct supervision prior to the start of camp
• Coordinate with Camp Director and other senior staff to develop Staff Training Week

In season:

Provide supervision, coaching, and evaluation of bunk counselors in their daily duties to help create the most positive experience for campers.

• Lead selected presentations as determined by Director during Staff Training Week
• Visit with campers and counselors daily, offering hands-on supervision and ensuring connections are being made
• Work with necessary personnel to create a positive experience for all campers
• Keep Director informed of situations that required attention and all actions taken
• Assist in making the camp atmosphere psychologically safe for both campers and counselors
• Be concerned for and attentive to the health, safety, and general welfare of campers and counselors
• Recognize and respond to teachable moments with campers and counselors
• Model and encourage respect
• Ensure no camper is being left out by promoting healthy relationships among campers and counselors
• Conduct formal evaluation of counselors midway through and at the end of the summer
• Collaborate with Group Leaders, Program Director, and Camp Director in the development, planning, and execution of various daily and special event programming
• Supervise the daily clean-up of bunks
• Partner with Group Leaders, Elective Heads, and bunk counselors to deliver an engaging and safe program to all campers

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

• Massachusetts RN, or LPN
• Camp dates: 6/29/2022 – 8/17/2022
• Be able to practice in the State of Massachusetts
• Pediatric or camp experience preferred
• Ability to manage health forms and paperwork
• Enjoy working with kids aged 7  -17 years
• Hard-working, enthusiastic, and committed to the safety and well-being of campers
• Adaptable and comfortable living in a camp setting and interacting positively with other camp staff
• Good communicator with campers, staff and parents
• Ability to originate, update, and/or monitor healthcare, maintain records, implement a health plan (when applicable)
• Ability to make decisions and take initiative with regard to healthcare

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES 

1. Review health forms for campers prior to their arrival at camp
2. Establish health needs during camper arrival time
3. Oversee overall health and well-being of campers and staff
4. Medication administration
5. Illness and injury management
6. Overnight on-call hours
7. Activate urgent care or higher level of care, if needed
8. Communication with parents
9. Health care documentation

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE (But are not limited to)

1. Ensure each staff member and camper has on file a health history and examination form, as required.
2. Set up and run a system of health screenings for arriving campers and staff
3. Organize all camper medications and set up a “dispensing system” with medication binders with instructions.
4. Conduct inventory of supplies and place orders when necessary, ensuring timely arrival of supplies.
5. Establish and follow appropriate medical routines including record keeping in the daily medical log, disposal of medical waste, managing and safeguarding medications, and utilizing approved standing orders.
6. Make appointments, when necessary, with medical/dental offices in the local community.
7. Check, maintain, and issue first aid kits when needed.
8. Participate in and lead specific areas of staff training pertaining to camp health and safety.
9. Keep accident/incident reports that can be used for risk-management assessment.
10. Be a medical resource that would bridge the gap between basic medical knowledge and calling 911.

Since 1931, Bauercrest has helped boys build self-esteem and independence, both on and off the field, under the guidance and leadership of dedicated staff. Counselors are responsible for managing and supporting a designated group of campers.

Bauercrest offers a safe, enjoyable, and meaningful camping experience for every camper. Our goal is to build a boy’s identity and self-esteem both on and off the field through the commonly held values of Sportsmanship, Teamwork, Achievement, and Responsibility (our S.T.A.R. principles). Our facilities are top-notch and include a competition swimming pool, waterfront activities (beachfront, boating, fishing, etc.), illuminated fields, a Ninja course, and an air-conditioned rec hall, among other things.

Role:

As an overnight Camp Counselor, you will ensure that your assigned campers have the best summer ever by being responsible for their safety, well-being, and enjoyment by guiding, teaching, and mentoring the group. • Enthusiasm for working with children both indoors and outdoors while leading, teaching, and coaching sports and other activities.
• Ability to respond appropriately and patiently to situations while working with others in a team environment to problem solve and think outside the box.

Sports coach/instructor:

Camp Bauercrest takes improving our campers’ athletic ability as well as their knowledge of the games we play very seriously. To that end, we are hiring instructors with experience in both playing and coaching specific sports, including basketball, lacrosse, hockey, and golf, in an effort to provide this extra training for the campers.

Qualifications:

• Must have played the sport in College
• Coached at least 2 years in youth/high school
• Available for at least 1 week during the summer
• Experience with children off the field/court
• 3 References

Waterfront Director:

The most popular elective at camp every year. The Waterfront Director must be at least 21 years old and an experienced boating person with an active lifeguard certification. Canoeing, sailing, and fishing experience is preferred but not required. 3 references are required and salary ranges from 6-8K for the full 7-week summer.

Program Specialist:

The Program Specialist is a person with vast knowledge of how to coach, referee (if applicable) and teach the specific program. Woodworking, ceramics, arts and crafts, music/drama, and sports broadcasting are some examples. This position can be a veteran counselor or someone from the outside who provides the campers with great instruction and a love for the program.
